BASL launches ‘The Bar Reporter’
The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) launched ‘The Bar Reporter’ - the newspaper of the BASL last evening (28).
The launch was held at a glittering ceremony at the Kingsbury Hotel.
Senior President’s Counsel and former BASL President – Mr. N.R.M. Daluwatte, PC, attended the event as chief guest.
The first copy of the ‘The Bar Reporter’ was handed over to Mr. Daluwatte by current BASL President – Mr. Upul Jayasuriya.
In addition, the official site of the BASL was re-launched by President’s Counsel - Wijayadasa Rajapakse.
Further, the sms service was also launched at the event by President’s Counsel - Upali Guneratne.
Speaking, Editor-in-Chief of the ‘The Bar Reporter’ – Mr. S.P. Sriskantha said: “We have about 14,000 lawyers in this country and this is sent free by post to all our members far and wide…in Sri Lanka and abroad. So there will be a very wide circulation…”
He also said that the publication would be devoid of trashy content but would include content to educate the public of their rights as well as important court rulings.

Thailand Road Show 2013
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) held a tourism promotion event called Open Thailand Road Show- 2013 at Hotel Taj Samudra recently.
The event, held last Monday (24) was graced by distinguished guests including the Thai Ambassador in Sri Lanka - Mr. Poldej Worachat and the Governor of the TAT - Suraphon Svetasreni.
Speaking, the TAT governor said that out of the foreigners visiting Thailand, 60% were from the Asian region.
“From the Sri Lankan market, we have seen a steady growth in the number of tourist arrivals to Thailand. During the first five months of this year, there were a total of 29,330 tourist arrivals from Sri Lanka with a significant increase of 8%,” he said.
He also said that the core theme of the TAT’s 2013action plan would be ‘Higher revenue through Thainess.’
The event comprised of several other speeches from special guests followed by several dance performances by a group of dancers from a fine arts college of Thailand, which displayed Thai culture and lifestyle.

Dilka Samanmali, who won the hearts of many viewers hosting the famous political talkshow of Derana TV ‘360’ programme, has revealed about a marriage proposal she received from a politician.
However, the incident has occurred while she was single.
She has faced the situation following a question she asked in the programme.
When she questioned a certain politician ‘aren’t you planning to get married ‘in response he has stated ‘I do have an idea. What do U think?’
Even though, she faced a great embarrassment with the counter attack of the politician, she has stated that ‘I have an idea about getting married. What I asked was about your marriage’.
The particular politician is heard to be single.

Manoj and Sanjeewani's "thing"
Rumours were spread throughout the entertainment field that the talented musician Manoj Peiris had remained unmarried because of a heart break of a lost love towards the famous singer Sanjeewani Weerasinghe.

Ranveer spat on Sonakshi’s face
Bollwyood actress Sonakshi Sinha walked out of the sets of the film 'Lootera' when her co-actor Ranveer Singh accidentally spat on her face while delivering a dialogue.
"She got so angry with me that she stormed out of the sets of the film. It has never happened to me before," Ranveer said.
Recalling the incident while shooting the film, he said, "There is a scene where I hold Sonakshi tightly and yell 'You called the police?' I was in the skin of the character at that time and so the intensity was such that spit came out each time I said the dialogue".
When the incident happened even after warnings during rehearsals, the 'Dabangg' actress walked out of the sets in a fit of rage.
The 27-year-old Ranveer admitted he had a tough time afterwards in pacifying his co-actress so that the shooting could resume.

Parents keep Somaratne’s young find in check
Pramuditha Udayakumara – the young talent discovered by Dr. Somaratne Dissanayake for his film ‘Siri Parakum’, has received offers for three more films, ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’ learns.
However, seems young Pramuditha’s parents are not that thrilled with the offers as they are anxious about how it might affect the boy’s education.
As Siri Perakum was mostly shot in rural locations, Pramuditha was forced to miss a huge part of his education and following this, his parent have decided not to allow their young son to return to the silver screen soon, reports add.

Radio stations request money to play Saman’s songs
Famous Baila singer Saman de Silva has stated that he has to pay majority of the radio stations to play his songs.
Due to this situation he has not made any creations for the past 7-8 years.
Veteran singers like Pandith Amaradeva and Sanath Nandasiri have also given up composing songs due to this particular reason, he accused.
He also stated that even though the radio stations earn money by airing the old songs, he is not paid even a penny for that.
He accused the radio station for not inviting him for musical programmes organized island wide by the radio stations that earn a good sum of money using his songs.
Only Sri Lanka Broadcasting Service and Sirasa FM make payments when his songs are played, he said.

Baby boy for Shah Rukh Khan & Gauri
Shah Rukh Khan, who has been blessed with a third child through surrogacy, has said that the much-publicised issue was a "personal and confidential" matter for him.
"It is a personal and confidential matter...it is a mix of happiness and sadness. I request the authorities concerned to continue to enthusiastically investigate about my baby," he told reporters at the music launch of his upcoming film Chennai Express.
Earlier in the day (July 04), civic officials confirmed having received birth report of Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan's baby boy, born with the help of a surrogate mother. As per the report, the baby was born on May 27 at the Masrani Hospital for Women in suburban Andheri. The celebrity couple has two kids - son Aryan and daughter Suhana.
"Get over it. Get on the train baby, and not my baby. Will talk about all this later," he told reporters who asked a volley of questions about the new member of his family.
Asked how does it feel to become father for the third time, the 47-year-old King Khan shot back in his typical style: "Ask your health reporter." It is mandatory for nursing homes and hospitals to register every birth in the city. The civic body issues birth certificates to parents on the basis of a report received from the health facility concerned.
Earlier, following a complaint based on media reports that a pre-natal sex determination test had been conducted on the child, the BMC sent a team to Khan's residence last month to ascertain the facts. The team, however, was turned away.
Gender testing is banned under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique (PCPNDT) Act. A BMC officer has said a team would be sent to Khan's residence in suburban Bandra to find out from him if a sex determination test was conducted on the foetus.

Latha to stop singing
Veteran singer Ms.Latha Walpola is preparing to retire from her musical carreer, 'Sri Lanka Mirror' learns.
She is preparing to mark the finale of her famous and long carreer on her 80th birthday which falls on the 11th November 2014.
She said that it will be a grand event where she will sing along with her children and grand children.
Meanwhile, it is also reported that a young "starlet" who had regained an overnight fame from a talent show, had once asked Latha Walpola at a musical show, why she chose to sing a song which the starlet had planned to sing next.
It is also reported that Latha is upset about naming a road in Maharagama by the name of a young singer named Saheli Gamage while her late husband, the veteran singer Dharmadasa Walpola was given no such honour.

Popular actress, producer, model and announcer - Medha Jayarathne, has returned to Sri Lanka from England, reports say.
Medha has arrived with her husband and she says that she won't be going back again.
They lived in England foe a while and she says that it was because her husband was finishing his higher education there.
However, they now have a daughter of 4 months named Siyara Gaguli Senewirathne.
They have a son too.

Damitha’s marriage postponed again
Popular actress Damitha Abeyratne’s marriage has been postponed yet again, ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’ learns.
Speaking to media recently, she had said that marriage is not in her cards just yet due to her hectic schedule, which is to prevail until next September.
Damitha, who is busy with shoots of several teledramas and a Sanjaya Nirmal film, has even rejected offers of overseas musical events, reports say.

K. Sujeewa who has been allegedly involve in a fraud where she has given a certain medicine to people stating that it makes them fair is currently residing in Dubai, learns ‘ Sri Lanka Mirror’.

Leading international pop singer of Sri Lankan origin - Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam, well known by her stage name - ‘MIA’ recently announced “I always support LTTE! They are freedom fighters “.
The moniker "M.I.A." is both a play on her own name and a reference to the abbreviation for Missing in Action.
Speaking to media she went on to say singers are permitted to comment on political issues and that genocides are occurring in Sri Lanka.

Eda Re sung in English
Pawan Induwara Mallawarachchi, grandson of late Milton Mallawarachchi, and the son of Ranil Mallawarachchi has started to sing Milton's songs in English.
Accordingly the veteran singer's famous song "Eda Re Guwan Thotupoledi" song has been translated to English as "Show me your love"
The lyrics too has been written by Pawan.
